First a few simple facts about the island of Evia :-

  • The second largest Greek island and one of its best kept secrets !
  • 500 miles of coastline, similar to Devon and Cornwall, England
  • Remains unspoilt and undiscovered by commercial tourism
  • Only an hour from the new Athens international airport(by road or rail)
  • A population of  230,000 people
  • Spectacular scenery with mountains up to nearly 6,000 ft

Greek food .....its delicious

One of the great things about living over here is the food . Not just the mousaka or Greek salad we have all enjoyed on holiday , but all the other dishes that are served up ....mesedakia, special dishes for the winter months and desserts !

Have you ever tried Dolmades ? A great way to start a meal - serve with Ouzo on the rocks !They are basically minced meat wrapped up in vine leaves (or cabbage leaves in the winter) and served in a rich white lemon sauce. Some supermarkets sell them frozen. They are easy to make. My mother in law still cooks them and she is 86 years old !
