A small holiday resort of about 1,000 inhabitants north of Karystos on the south-western peninsula of Evia. It was known originally for its marble quarries but is now appreciated for its beautiful beaches and views across the Etalion Gulf including to Petalii island opposite.
A suitable location to explore the scenic countryside around, the monastries, the churches and historic monuments which are present in this unspoilt and quiet area.

The town is an increasingly popular summer holiday destination for Greeks as fuel and ferry prices become more expensive to other islands further away. Along the sea front there are in addition to the local shops many tavernas and cafes. New holiday facilities are under construction to compliment the existing hotels present.
How to get there:
A regular ferry , which takes 45 minutes, runs to Rafina which is about 20 minutes from Athens Airport . Road access from Athens is possible by taking a scenic drive via Halkida about 120 km away.
