A historical town of some 4,000 people about 90 km from Halkida on the east coast of central Evia.

It has views over the Aegean sea to the island of Skyros and has a distinctive architectural style with its reddish stone houses. 

Besides the great beaches in the area for swimming and underwater fishing there are the picturesque Moni tou Sotiros (Monastery of the Savior), built in 1643 and the Folklore Museum to visit. 

 

Facilities:
The seaside resort provides the main retail and taverna amenities for the area.  It has several museums including one of the natural history of the petrified forest of Lsvos.  The town is within driving distance of some lovely sandy beaches which can be found along the east coast.

How to get there:
There is spectacular scenery around and it is accessed by road via Halkida or ferries via Eretria or Marmari.  There is a ferry link to Skyros.
